Empowering New York Students: Reflex and Frax Boost Regents-Aligned Math Skills
According to extensive research, two of the biggest challenges in elementary math are also the strongest predictors of future mathematics achievement: math fact fluency and fractions.
Math fact fluency frees up students’ working memory and positively affects standardized test performance. Research shows that knowledge of fractions significantly impacts students’ understanding of algebra and advanced math. Reflex (for math facts) and Frax (for fractions) provide engaging and effective solutions to help students master foundational skills and prepare for dynamic digital testing environments like the Regents Examinations.
What about Reflex and Frax in New York?
Reflex has been trusted by educators and loved by over 10 million students in all 50 states and 25+ countries and since the launch of Frax in 2021, even more students are experiencing math success with ExploreLearning solutions.

“While there are multiple fluency programs available to young learners, Reflex and Frax have far exceeded all of our other platforms in terms of engaging and interactive activities, immediate feedback, and tools for tracking progress.”
-Teacher, Hauppauge School District, NYVoices from New York Classrooms
“I gave an incentive to my class- whoever reached 100% would receive a prize. The students were extremely motivated and logged into Reflex every chance they had, including at home. The first student to reach 100% was so excited and the rest of the class was cheering for him!”
-Teacher, Schenectady City School District, NYVoices from New York Classrooms
“Students really enjoy how engaging Frax is. Surprising moment: we started our fractions unit and most of my students already know fraction vocabulary. How awesome!”
-Teacher, Baldwin Union Free School District, NYNew York Success Story
“Since we have implemented Reflex and Frax, we have seen really nice progress in math proficiency both in the core instructional block and on the NYS Mathematics test.”

About Reflex
Grades 2+
Built on a fact family approach, Reflex uses a variety of explicit strategies to introduce new facts, including the commutative property, rule-based patterns, and visual models.
As a student progresses in a Reflex game, the system continuously adjusts the difficulty of fact retrieval based on their progress, providing an adequate level of challenge within the limits of current abilities.

About Frax
Grades 3+
Frax is an engaging, zero-entry program, allowing all learners to gain fractions knowledge and confidence as they complete carefully scaffolded missions.
Frax uses the number line as the central representation tool to help students foster an understanding of fraction magnitude and perform advanced work with fractions. When used before a fractions unit, Frax can propel student learning forward.
Pilot InformationReflex and Frax bring evidence-based results.
Reflex and Frax use research-proven methods and innovative technology to provide the most effective math solutions available. Schools and districts have seen serious results with Reflex and Frax to close achievement gaps and propel students forward in math in a short amount of time.
A two-year study revealed the significant positive impact of Reflex and Frax on student achievement—even for those most at risk. 2nd graders who scored two or more grade levels below their peers in math improved by an average of 11 percentile points when they used Reflex, compared to 5 percentile points in non-users. When those same Reflex users advanced to 3rd grade and used Frax, students were 2.5x more likely to reach on-grade level math proficiency by the end of 3rd grade compared to non-users.
