Empowering Texas Students: Reflex and Frax Boost TEKS- Aligned Math Skills
According to extensive research, two of the biggest challenges in elementary math are also the strongest predictors of future mathematics achievement: math fact fluency and fractions.
Math fact fluency frees up students’ working memory and positively affects standardized test performance. Research shows that knowledge of fractions significantly impacts students’ understanding of algebra and advanced math. Reflex (for math facts) and Frax (for fractions) provide engaging and effective solutions to help students master foundational TEKS and prepare for dynamic digital testing environments like the STAAR assessment.
What about Reflex and Frax in Texas?
Reflex has been trusted by educators and loved by over 10 million students in all 50 states and 25+ countries and since the launch of Frax in 2021, even more students are experiencing math success with ExploreLearning solutions.

Proven Results: The Impact of Reflex in Texas
Students of all levels across Texas made substantial gains in math fact fluency while using Reflex in the 2023-2024 school year, with a 65% increase in fluency scores for high fidelity users.

A separate study explored the impact of Reflex on students’ math fact fluency in grades 2-4 across two Title I school districts, Tomball ISD and Houston ISD. Students who used Reflex went from a pretest average of 29 correct problems to a posttest average of 81 correct problems: an improvement of 184%.

Voices from Texas Classrooms
“I use Frax in my classes. On our mid-year screener, my students outperformed the other 3rd grade classes that don’t use Frax. My two classes’ average point increase was double that of the other five classes.”
-Teacher, Liberty Hill Independent School District, TXVoices from Texas Classrooms
“I can’t say enough good things about Reflex! Kids actually like it and I have seen so much improvement when they need to apply operations in word problems; it’s because they are confident! I have one particular student that had 12% fluency and is now at 89%.”
-Teacher, Manor Independent School District, TXVoices from Texas Classrooms
“I currently have a nonverbal student. It is difficult at times to even tell what he is feeling. But when he reaches a Green Light, his eyes glow and his smile shows! That is success!”
-Teacher, Taft Independent School District, TXTexas Success Story
“Four out of five days a week my students reach the Reflex Green Light. They complete a Frax mission every two to three days. Over 50% of kids had reached 100% math fact fluency within three weeks. We took an interim exam that was heavy on multiplication and fact computation. My scores on the interim test were the highest they have been with overall growth comparing certain TEKS before and after we regularly used Reflex. I was surprised at how much growth there was in such a short amount of time.”

About Reflex
Grades 2+
Built on a fact family approach, Reflex uses a variety of explicit strategies to introduce new facts, including the commutative property, rule-based patterns, and visual models.
As a student progresses in a Reflex game, the system continuously adjusts the difficulty of fact retrieval based on their progress, providing an adequate level of challenge within the limits of current abilities.

About Frax
Grades 3+
Frax is an engaging, zero-entry program, allowing all learners to gain fractions knowledge and confidence as they complete carefully scaffolded missions.
Frax uses the number line as the central representation tool to help students foster an understanding of fraction magnitude and perform advanced work with fractions. When used before a fractions unit, Frax can propel student learning forward.

Reflex and Frax use research-proven methods and innovative technology to provide the most effective math solutions available. Schools and districts have seen serious results with Reflex and Frax to close achievement gaps and propel students forward in math in a short amount of time.
A two-year study revealed the significant positive impact of Reflex and Frax on student achievement—even for those most at risk. 2nd graders who scored two or more grade levels below their peers in math improved by an average of 11 percentile points when they used Reflex, compared to 5 percentile points in non-users. When those same Reflex users advanced to 3rd grade and used Frax, students were 2.5x more likely to reach on-grade level math proficiency by the end of 3rd grade compared to non-users.
