Frax helps all students understand fractions.
ExploreLearning Frax uses the latest research-based instructional methods to create a more effective, more engaging way for students to learn fractions. Fun challenges, personalized instruction, and motivating rewards help all students build mastery—all while exploring the galaxy with fractions!
What's so great about Frax?
Break through the barriers to learning fractions.
The research is clear. Without the ability to understand, represent, and reason about the size of fractions, students cannot make sense of fraction arithmetic and will always struggle to interpret or apply them in the real world. Frax solves this most fundamental problem, unblocking the path to student confidence and success.
Build deep conceptional understanding.
Students work extensively with length models and number lines to interpret, represent, compare, order, and estimate fractions. With this critical grounding, students can move beyond memorized procedures and tricks and come to make sense of fractions and their operations.
Trade struggle for success.
Game-based, story-driven, and standards aligned, the adaptive system meets students where they are and unlocks new games, challenges, and rewards for their efforts. Fun challenges and frequent rewards keep students coming back, while real-time monitoring helps teachers immediately identify students who need help.
Take a journey into fractions with Frax.
Story-driven Missions
Students take on missions throughout the galaxy, exploring new worlds as they hone their fractions knowledge. Each mission (with 3-4 standards-based activities) takes about 30 minutes to complete.
Fun, Challenging Games
Each mission features fun games that challenge students to perform a variety of tasks that build their fractions skills and understanding. Supported by brief, just-in-time instruction, they learn largely by doing.
Rewards for Effort and Progress
As students complete activities and missions, they earn tokens to spend on customizing their ship’s quarters. As they progress, they also unlock trophies that celebrate the completion of a successful mission.
Classroom-ready Support
Frax ensures all students succeed. With offline activities, mission reviews, and real-time reporting, educators can quickly discover when students are struggling and how to help. Plus, our support includes trainers and learning communities that foster best teaching practices.
Everybody's Talking About Frax
“I love that Frax uses multiple models to help the students conceptually understand fraction magnitude. It gives them a deeper understanding. A student told me ‘I really get fractions now!’ He was so excited because fractions have been a real struggle for him.”
- Frax Teacher, Steamboat Springs SD RE-2, CO“Our students set an individual ‘I can do hard things’ goal. One struggles with math and has no interest doing math or motivation to contribute. Since starting Frax he has asked to change his goal to complete all Frax missions by May so they he can receive his reward at the end of the year assembly.”
- Frax Teacher, Ririe School District 252, ID“My students love playing Frax! Teaching them fractions have never been easier. I feel like so many of the common misconceptions are corrected, and we have barely started whole group fraction instruction.”
- Frax Teacher, Gilmer County School District, GA“I really like how much fraction knowledge my students are retaining with Frax! We recently did an offline debriefing and I was blown away with how many answers my students were getting correct.”
- Frax Teacher, Carteret County School District, NC“My students LOVE Frax! They now regularly say things like ‘Well I know that 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2...’ or ‘I know that 3/6 = 1/2...’, which were not things they were saying before working on Frax. The improvement in their fraction fluency has been noticeable.”
- Frax Teacher, Governor Wentworth Regional School District, NH“I have been able to compare my students beginning of the year test data to the middle of the year test data and have seen a dramatic increase in their fraction understanding with Frax—and I haven't even begun to teach fractions yet.”
- Frax Teacher, DeKalb County School District, GA“My kids are OBSESSED with it! They are always asking to play it and are super engaged in it. This is way more exciting and meaningful than anything else I've used. ”
