Frax helps all students understand fractions.
ExploreLearning Frax uses the latest research-based instructional methods to create a more effective, more engaging way for students to learn fractions. Fun challenges, personalized instruction, and motivating rewards help all students build mastery—all while exploring the galaxy with fractions!
What's so great about Frax?
Break through the barriers to learning fractions.
The research is clear. Without the ability to understand, represent, and reason about the size of fractions, students cannot make sense of fraction arithmetic and will always struggle to interpret or apply them in the real world. Frax solves this most fundamental problem, unblocking the path to student confidence and success.
Build deep conceptional understanding.
Students work extensively with length models and number lines to interpret, represent, compare, order, and estimate fractions. With this critical grounding, students can move beyond memorized procedures and tricks and come to make sense of fractions and their operations.
Trade struggle for success.
Game-based, story-driven, and standards aligned, the adaptive system meets students where they are and unlocks new games, challenges, and rewards for their efforts. Fun challenges and frequent rewards keep students coming back, while real-time monitoring helps teachers immediately identify students who need help.
Take a journey into fractions with Frax.
Story-driven Missions
Students take on missions throughout the galaxy, exploring new worlds as they hone their fractions knowledge. Each mission (with 3-4 standards-based activities) takes about 30 minutes to complete.
Fun, Challenging Games
Each mission features fun games that challenge students to perform a variety of tasks that build their fractions skills and understanding. Supported by brief, just-in-time instruction, they learn largely by doing.
Rewards for Effort and Progress
As students complete activities and missions, they earn tokens to spend on customizing their ship’s quarters. As they progress, they also unlock trophies that celebrate the completion of a successful mission.
Classroom-ready Support
Frax ensures all students succeed. With offline activities, mission reviews, and real-time reporting, educators can quickly discover when students are struggling and how to help. Plus, our support includes trainers and learning communities that foster best teaching practices.
Everybody's Talking About Frax
“My students are super sad that there are only 27 Frax missions. They are literally begging to do more fraction work! One student who usually struggles with math concepts completed all of the missions and is now getting A’s in math instead of C’s.”
- Frax Teacher, Greenville Co School District, SC“I have been able to compare my students beginning of the year test data to the middle of the year test data and have seen a dramatic increase in their fraction understanding with Frax—and I haven't even begun to teach fractions yet.”
- Frax Teacher, DeKalb County School District, GA“My students LOVE Frax! They now regularly say things like ‘Well I know that 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2...’ or ‘I know that 3/6 = 1/2...’, which were not things they were saying before working on Frax. The improvement in their fraction fluency has been noticeable.”
- Frax Teacher, Governor Wentworth Regional School District, NH“The sequence of instruction in Frax has really laid a solid foundation for my students' understanding of fractions. Before introducing fractions, the fraction questions on iStation were really challenging to students but after having just a week of Frax before having to take it again, that percentage of questions correct drastically improved for some students!! I can't wait to see how they do after a month!”
- Frax Teacher, Russellville School District, AR“My students really love the Frax game play and don't even realize that they are doing fractions. They just feel like they are helping solve problems. I also love that I can see what they are doing as they do it and see who is struggling so I can go help them as they work.”
- Frax Teacher, Gilbert Unified School District 41, AZ“Frax is by far the best program I have seen for fractions. Even the kids who experience math challenges seem to ‘get’ fractions. Now, when any fraction related math comes up in our lessons, they all seem to know the correct answer!”
- Frax Teacher, Cloquet Independent School District 94, MN“There is nothing compared to Frax. It's much more engaging to individual students than anything I've used before. I've had students frequently tell me: ‘Fractions are so easy now!’ ‘Hey, I remember this from Frax,’ and ‘I know how to do this—I just completed a mission on this!’”
